Klay's Grandpa Roy's 1946 John Deere A
Classic Farm Tractors
Hi! My name is Klay.  I'm 13 years old.
My Dad and Stan have been friends
since they were kids.  I like coming
over to the shop to watch the tractors
being restored.  My dad and I decided
to surprise my Grandpa and restore
his John Deere A.  I want to have it
completed in time for the Windsor
Harvest Festival Parade next fall.
We're going to surprise my Grandpa
and drive it in the parade.  He doesn't
know it's being restored.

My dad tells me that most of the time,
this tractor had a loader on it when he
was helping his dad farm.  We used
the loader to feed the cattle and load
manure.

The hole in the air pipe is from a gun
shot.  My dad tells me it was sitting up
at our silage pit back in the 1960's and
we think some kids decided to have
target practice.

Watch my progress.  I'll keep adding
pictures as the tractor goes from old to
new.

Weekend #1

Tractor Tear Down

Weekend #2

Remove 30+ years
of oil with a putty
knife, hammer, and
chisel.  Because it
was used as a
loader, there was a
bunch of crusted on
oil.
